The Best Furniture For A Productive Office

Home / Archives for Furniture
furniture for a productive office

Office buildings or home offices need a variety of furniture to keep workers productive. Choosing the right layout, flooring, and furniture will ensure that workers feel happy coming to work and result in a productive office. Purchasing quality furniture can be expensive, but investing in the right furniture can change the entire scope of your office. Here are our top choices for quality office furniture that can improve the productivity of any type of office.

Ergonomic Chairs

Ergonomic furniture is important for those who sit at a desk all day. Choosing a high-quality office chair that can help prevent back pain, neck stiffness, and shoulder tension will promote better posture that allows you to comfortably work for longer. Some of the key features of an ergonomic chair include lumbar support, breathable fabric, and adjustable settings to meet the needs of all heights and sizes. A proper office chair not only improves pain and discomfort, but it also enhances focus. By limiting pain or tired muscles, you can better focus on tasks at hand.

Productive Desk

Having proper desk space and a clean workspace are two key elements of a productive office. A large desktop, plenty of storage, and an ergonomic desk can help improve efficiency during the workday. A desk with built-in drawers and storage will keep your office materials organized and easily accessible when needed. When not in use, putting pens, documents, and other supplies away can limit distractions. Cluttered desks can make it hard to focus on your work or feel motivated, so creating a clean slate will contribute to better productivity.

Modern Storage Solutions

It’s important for offices to have proper storage for documents, office supplies, and other necessary supplies. Built-in storage at each desk and in common areas will ensure that everyone can keep areas tidy and avoid misplaced items. Desks with built-in drawers, filing cabinets, built-in shelving, and cabinetry will keep the office tidy and productive.

Modular storage and vertical filing cabinets will help you maximize the space around your workstation. Modular shelving can be moved and readjusted as needed to accommodate different needs or projects.

Custom Lighting

Overhead lighting is needed for an office space, but additional custom lighting can make your desk space feel more fun and add a personal touch. Custom lighting or temporary lights, like a string light or lamp, can help you see plans or notes clearly. Lighting doesn’t have to be expensive; in fact, it can be affordable to put additional lighting around your office, cubicle, or home office. Spicing up your workspace will make going to work or sitting down to work on a project more appealing.

Decorative Elements

Another way to make going to work more fun is to incorporate decorative elements, fun colored furniture, or art around your space. Incorporating your favorite colors or furniture pieces that you are obsessed with will make going to the office more exciting.

If you are furnishing a home office, including bookshelves with your favorite novels, non-fiction books, or old yearbooks can be a fun way to spice up the space. Bookshelves can also be decorated with small knick-knacks, photos, and memorabilia to make the space feel lived in. Bookcases or built-in shelving are a great way to add character to a home office.

Additional Seating For Added Comfort

We all know sitting in an office chair for the entire day can be annoying, and often working from different places or positions throughout the day can help productivity. Adding additional seating options around the office or in your home office will allow you to work from your laptop or change your scenery while working on a tough project. Loveseats, sofas, beanbags, or a barstool can be added to make the space cozy or make it easier to work in different parts of the office.

Tips For Styling Your Coffee Table

Coffee tables are a common piece of furniture that is used for holding your morning coffee, a late-night drink, a piece of reading material, or family photos. Coffee tables are often one of the first places someone decorates or styles to make their home look lived-in and cozy. Styling your coffee table can be a fun activity when you purchase a new home.

Styling any part of a home can be overwhelming to some, especially when trying to make it cohesive with other parts of the home. Spaces like bookshelves, coffee tables, or countertops can be difficult to decorate because you will want to fill the space without causing it to look cluttered. In this blog, we will share some of the top tips for styling your coffee table and how to make it feel like your personal style. Your side tables and coffee tables can be a focal point and remain functional when decorated appropriately.

Include Natural Elements

One of the first steps to styling a coffee table is to include natural textures, plants, or earth-tone elements. Our minds and bodies want to feel connected to the surrounding nature, so bringing those elements into your common spaces will help your home feel like an extension of the natural world, even if the piece is a faux plant or an object that is colored in a natural tone.

Implement Photobooks Or Cookbooks

Coffee table books are some of the easiest pieces to implement into your coffee table styling. Books with colorful photos, family photo albums, or a cookbook by one of your favorite chefs are a good place to start. Books can also be stacked or be a resting place for a pot or other decorative object to create height. Coffee table books are easily accessible and affordable to help elevate your living room decor.

Use A Table Tray When Styling

A table tray or bowl can hold smaller items or fruit to add texture and visual interest. Fill your table tray, bowl, or dish with seasonal items or fruit to bring more life to the space. Table trays can add a base for all of your other coffee table elements, keeping the decor from filling the entire table and looking cluttered. Containing items inside a tray is best for larger tables, allowing it to appear smaller while still giving you space to prop up your feet.

Stick To A Color Scheme

Similar to any other interior design, sticking to a color scheme is the best way to ensure a space feels cohesive. Choosing three to four colors, one being a neutral, will make the design look cohesive and tie all the elements together. Monochromatic, Complementary, Triad, and Analogous are some of the most common color schemes, making it easier to find complementary colors.

Some common color schemes include:

  • All neutrals
  • Brown, blue, green
  • Brown, yellow, orange, and red
  • White, green, blue, and purple
  • Gray, blue, cream, and sage
  • Brown, mauve, cream, and pink
  • Gray, black, white, and a pop of color

Use Varrying Heights

There should be a variety of objects of different heights to help your eyes go on a visual journey. Having different points of interest and varying heights will make the table feel finished. Include a vase of flowers, a bowl filled with stacked objects, candles, and books to have different interest levels. Your objects shouldn’t be so tall that you can’t see over them when sitting on the sofa, but definitely play with different heights.

Texture Matters

Mixing textures is important to good interior design. When designing a living room and decorating your coffee table, using glossy, matte, tactile, and woven materials together may seem like too much, but combining textures actually creates balance. Having too much of one texture can cause the table or room to feel cluttered or sterile.

solid and engineered wood

Solid and engineered wood can be used in many different applications and have a variety of benefits. From hardwood flooring, solid furniture, to storage pieces, the applications for wood are truly endless. Choosing between engineered wood and solid wood depends on where it is being used, the surrounding climate, and how much maintenance you want to have to keep it aesthetically pleasing. This blog will share different aspects of each wood type and how it can be used in a home, business, or other setting.

Design Flexibility

Using solid wood for tables, chairs, dressers, flooring, and construction will allow you to have higher design flexibility because it can be easily cut, stained, painted, or carved to your preferences. Engineered wood can be stained or painted, but it often doesn’t hold the pigment as well as solid wood. Solid wood ranges in durability and hardness, making it common in many applications. The objects that can be made from wood are truly endless, especially when you choose the right wood type.

Price

One of the biggest differences between solid and engineered wood is the price per square foot. The price can also depend on whether it is being used for flooring or if you are buying raw lumber. For flooring, engineered hardwood can range from $5 to $15 per square foot. Solid food without a finish can range from $5 to $28 per square foot. Solid wood will typically have a higher price point because of its higher durability. Wood types or colors that are in high demand may have a higher cost per square foot.

Expected Lifespan

Solid natural wood can last through weather and environmental factors, so it has a longer lifespan than engineered or composite options. Proper cutting and staining of the wood can also impact its lifespan, as well as how it is maintained over time. Flooring made of engineered wood can last up the 30 years, but solid wood floors can last for double that. Engineered wood used for furniture can last for 40 years, while solid wood can last for 50 years or more.

Installation

The process for installing hardwood or engineered wood flooring can look different depending on where it is being placed in a home or business. Solid hardwood flooring will also have different installation methods than engineered wood because of the cuts and finishes. Solid wood is cut from a single piece of wood and can be sanded or refinished before or after installation. These flooring options often need a type of heavy-duty glue, flooring nails, or an additional moisture barrier.

Engineered wood can often be installed with either glue or nails, not both, and comes in smaller pieces. Engineered wood often comes in interlocking pieces that make installation much quicker. If you have an uneven subfloor, engineered wood often won’t adhere well to the surface, making it difficult to install without leveling or a self-leveling product.

Common Applications For Engineered Wood

Using different types of wood across your home or business can help protect the space from damage and make life easier. This wood consists of a hardwood veneer bonded to multiple layers of fiberboard, making it good for basements or entryways that are prone to moisture.

Other applications for engineered wood include:

  • Support beams
  • Construction framing
  • Flooring in humid areas
  • Outdoor furniture
  • Decking
  • Wall paneling
  • Exterior doors

Common Applications For Solid Wood

Using solid wood will help give your furniture or home a timeless look, but it isn’t the best for all applications. Solid wood is often much harder to keep clean and maintained, especially if you have kids or pets.

Some common applications for solid wood include:

  • Tables, chairs, desks, and bookcases
  • Cabinetry
  • Beams or rafters
  • Fencing
  • Pergolas
  • Ships
  • Toys
  • Musical instruments
  • Picture frames
